Hoop Mountain Fall Classic – Event Recap

Friday night at Stonehill College in Easton, MA, 150 of the top players in the northeast gathered for the 21st consecutive Top 100 Fall Classic presented by Hoop Mountain. The event was once again a huge success as over 100 college coaches and scouts came to see some of the quality talent the area has to offer. 

Arguably the best performance of the night belonged to 6’7” Reuben Cabrera, a rising junior at Marianapolis Prep. Cabrera, a native of Puerto Rico, showed off an array of strong post moves and impressed with his strength and finishing ability in the paint. Another big man who impressed was 6’5” junior Daniel O’Keefe of Lexington HS. O’Keefe showed strength and mobility inside, impressing coaches with his body and scoring ability.  Other top performances in the paint belonged to Cabrera’s frontcourt mate at Marianapolis, Aaron Strothers, and 6’9” junior Jordan McDonald (pictured).  Strothers was able to utilize his athleticism around the rim to put points on the board, while McDonald had the coaches in attendance buzzing about his unlimited potential and upside. 

On the wing it was another Marianapolis post-grad who stood out as Mike Myers-Keitt showed a good deal of upside and versatility.  Also impressive was Peter White, a 6’3” senior out of Andover HS who showed off his athletic ability and high flying ability in the open floor. 

In the backcourt the two guards that stood out were 5’10” sophomore Corey Wright Jr. of Marianapolis Prep, and 5’10” junior Greg Jacques of St. Sebastian’s. Wright impressed with his handle and ability to create and score while Jacques was explosive in the open court and showed an ability to finish at the hoop.

Another sophomore, 5’9” Derek Retos of Brimmer & May showed off his NBA shooting range and the ability to be a consistent outside threat. 6’4” post-grad Tom Henneberry had a solid evening shooting as well, showing off a good mid-range game and as well as a consistent stroke from behind the three-point line.  Derek D’Amours, a 6’5” senior from Agawam HS impressed coaches with his quick first step and ability to create his own shot.
