High School Season Wrap-Up: NHIAA

Portsmouth was the team to beat all season long in the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association and when it was all said and done they had taken on, and defeated, all challengers.

The defending Division II state champions moved up to Division I and finished with their second consecutive undefeated season after handling Bedford 63-40 in the state championship game. Joey Glynn, who was named the Gatorade Player of the Year earlier this week in New Hampshire, scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Christian Peete had a team high 21 points in the final.

In Division II, Lebanon made their second straight trip to the finals but had a much easier time without having to face Portsmouth. Behind 23 points from Ryan Milliken they knocked off Coe-Brown 59-42 to win their first state championship in program history.

In Division III, Kearsarge came into the state final against Stevens as the heavy favorite but found themselves trailing by double figures mid-way through the second quarter. They relied on their dynamic duo of Tayler Mattos and Tommy Johnson to fight back and come away with the state championship. Johnson scored a game high 27 points while Mattos put together 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 blocks in route to the championship.

In Division IV, Groveton was going up against a Littleton squad that came into the state finals undefeated and also having won their first two match-ups of the year. Things were different in this match-up though as Groveton relied on some late three-point shooting to give them a 45-43 overtime win over the top seed.
