Harvard Adds Prep Product
As was first reported by the Cornell Basketball Blog, the Hotchkiss School’s Monty Brown has committed to Harvard University for next season.
Brown’s twitter account confirmed the commitment with a February 14th post that read only, “Harvard Crimson class of 2014!”
The six-foot-eleven Tulsa, Oklahoma native arrived at the Hotchkiss School for his junior season and has anchored the team in the middle ever since.
In addition to Brown’s size, his other top assets include an impressive skill set with the ability to score inside on the block or step out to the perimeter and shoot the ball.
Brown becomes the fifth player to commit to Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker this year and second since November when the Crimson had the top early recruiting class in the Ivy League according to ESPN.com.
The Hotchkiss big man joins two other local prep products in Harvard’s class in Northfield Mount Hermon’s Laurent Rivard and Matt Brown. The Crimson have also received commitments from seven-foot-one center Ugo Okam from Montverde Academy in Florida as well as six-foot-eight power forward James Moore from Jesuit High School in California. All five players are rated mid to high level mid-major players by ESPN.
Brown’s high school career came to an end on Friday night as Hotchkiss fell in the semifinals of the NEPSAC Class B tournament, dropping a 76-65 decision to top seeded defending champions Tilton.
