Gibson Earns Scholarship
Rockland High School's six-foot-six senior big man Tyler Gibson was one of the breakout prospects from this summer's July live period.
After flying under the radar for the vast majority of his high school career, Gibson turned in a starring performance for the Boston Warriors at AAU nationals, picking up his first scholarship offers shortly afterward as a result.
Two months and a few more scholarship offers later and Gibson has made a verbal commitment to the school who offered him that first scholarship back in early August, UMass Lowell.
The news was first reported by the South Shore Sports Journal.
"I'm committing to UMass-Lowell," Gibson told John Botelho. "I just believe it's the best fit for me. Not just basketball, but the school aspect as well. They have a new business building that will be built in the next year or two, and I want to study finance so it'll be good for me."
Gibson is an athletic big man who has continued to improve at a rapid rate throughout his high school career. He promises to be a terrific fit in UMass Lowell's up-tempo system and still has his best basketball in front of him.
