From Providence To Morgantown
It was just announced that SoCal Academy and Rhode Island Elite standout, Kelvin Odih, has committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers of the Big 12 Conference.
A Providence, Rhode Island native, Odih has spent the majority of his high school career in New England but recently transferred to SoCal Academy within the last month.
Nicknamed "The Jaguar" by his grassroots program, Odih began his high school journey at RIIL powerhouse La Salle Academy before moving to South Kent for the 2023-24 season.
Odih’s national rise began in June 2023, when he started picking up offers from top programs such as Marquette, URI, Xavier, Penn State, George Mason, Iowa, and Rutgers by August.
For a South Kent team that faced its share of challenges last season, Odih was a consistent bright spot. Whether utilized as an off-ball guard or wing, it was his physicality that truly set him apart.
With a well-developed physique, Odih powers his way to the rim, finishing over defenders with authority. Defensively, his strong core allows him to lock down opponents, switch onto players of different statures and disrupt their offensive flow.
As noted by Adam Finkelstein, Odih is currently transitioning into more of a guard role. His ability to dominate the ball during the grassroots season has greatly helped with this development, giving him the opportunity to refine his skills as a primary option.
During his live commitment on the 247Sports College Basketball Show, Odih shared how comfortable he was with West Virginia saying, "They showed that I was very important to the coaching staff and the program, they came to my house many times and even my new school in LA," he said, surrounded by friends and family at the Zuccolo Recreation Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Odih brings tremendous upside to the Mountaineers as he continues to elevate his game. His development over the past few years has been remarkable, with noticeable improvement every step of the way.
Although it may be challenging to watch him live while he finishes his high school career in California, there will be plenty of chances to catch him on live television in the near future.
