Flores Set to Sign on Wednesday

On Wednesday at 3:30pm Chris Flores will sign a National Letter of Intent to play for New Jersey Institute of Technology and head coach Jim Engles.

In attendance for Wednesday’s signing will be Flores, his mother and step-father, Marianapolis head coach Dave Vitale, and his high school coach at the O’Bryant School of Math and Science in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Juan Figueroa.

Flores averaged 16.5 points per game this year for a Marianapolis team that went 19-10 and advanced to their third consecutive class B final before falling in overtime to the Tilton School.  Flores was also voted his team’s “Most Outstanding Player”.

But what was especially impressive to college coaches was Flores’ ability to play his best in big games.  His 35 point performance in the class B final was just one example of him stepping up when the lights were on the brightest.

Flores, always known for his ability to slash to the basket, also showed coaches he could be equally productive with his perimeter jump shot, knocking down 52 three-point shots this year and shooting over 40% from the arc.

Prior to arriving at Marianapolis, Flores was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American game while starring at O’Bryant High School and was also a prominent member of the Metro Boston AAU club that turned heads over last summer’s live period.

Flores is expected to make an immediate contribution upon arriving at NJIT. The 2008-09 season was just the school’s third at the division I level.  After finishing with a record of 1-30, Coach Engles was looking to add more scoring power to his line-up.  In Flores he as added just that, as the 6’2” shooting-guard is a pure scorer who should be able to put points on the board right away next year for the Highlanders.
