Diallo Wins Gold with USA Basketball
Putnam Science guard Hamidou Diallo won a gold medal on Saturday as part of USA Basketball's 18-and-under team that captured the FIBA Americas championship.
The gold medal game saw Team USA hold off Canada 99-84 in a game that was competitive until the very end.
Tournament MVP and incoming Washington freshmen Markelle Fultz led the way with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists but Diallo chipped in with 14 points and 6 rebounds while continuing to make some of the tournament's most explosive highlight level plays.
"They hit big shot after big shot, but I knew once we settled in and ran our offense and played defense that we were going to run away with it, and that’s exactly what we did in the fourth quarter," Diallo said following the game. "It’s a blessing. There’s been adversity, so it’s a blessing to finally get what we came down here for. I’m happy to do it with this group of guys right here."
Here are some of the tweets that captured some of Diallo's biggest moments from the tournament and championship game.
