Dayshon to Dayton

Putnam Science Academy senior guard Dayshon Smith made a verbal commitment to Dayton on Friday night, choosing the Flyers over a host of other Atlantic 10 and high-major scholarship offers.

The news was first reported by ESPN.com.

When Smith first arrived in New England last fall, few could have predicted that he was on his way to high-major recruitment, but he had a tremendous spring and summer AAU season, proving his ability to slide over to the point guard position and showing creativity off the dribble and feel for the game to match his already well known three-point prowess.

Smith visited Duquesne and Dayton in recent weeks and came away from those trips ready to make his decision.

“After those two visits I felt comfortable making my decision,” Smith told ESPN.  “Dayton did a great job recruiting me.  They had a good connection with my family and they didn’t miss a game all summer.”

Here’s a look at some of Smith’s highlights, care of Ballas TV, during his junior season at Putnam Science and over the summer with his New York Lightning EYBL squad.
