Costello Scores in AAU & Travel Ball
As an 8th grader, Matt Costello was the starting scoring guard for the 9th grade MYCW team from Roxbury, Mass. this AAU season. Matt helped lead MYCW to the Massachusetts AAU final four and several tournament championships.
Matt had a pair of 30 point games and several 20+ outings playing up one grade, but he’s most proud of his production against elite clubs including VBC Gold (22 points), Connecticut Select (19 points), Expressions Elite (17 points), Mass Renegades (17 points), BABC (14 points), and Rhode Island Hawks (14 points). He also had 20 points versus a 10th grade Connecticut team.
Before AAU, Matt led two travel teams to championship games. In the Cape Ann League, he averaged 34 points over 8 playoff games; including performances of 43 points and 40 points. In the North Shore Suburban finals, Matt poured in 27 points in the second half alone.
“I’ve coached Matt over the last few months,” said Jose Morton, AAU Coach and also the Head Coach of the private prep school Boston Trinity Academy. “Matt has the ability to score the basketball in volume from both inside and outside. He challenges himself by playing against some of the best competition, and that should pay dividends for him down the road.”
