Busy Weekend in New England
A full slate of exciting basketball is on tap for local fans of high school basketball as Martin Luther King weekend brings three seperate events to New England.
Spalding Hoop Hall Classic
The eyes of the nation will be focused on Springfield this weekend as some of the very best teams and individual players the country has to offer will be in action at the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic. The action got underway on Friday night with five local games features some of the top boys and girls programs in western Massachusetts.
Things get back underway on Saturday as West Springfield battles East Hartford to kick off a day of action that also includes national powerhouses like Mount Vernon (NY), Taft (CA), St. Anthony (NJ), DeMatha (MD), Oak Hill (VA), and others.
Sunday’s action features some of New England’s brightest young stars as Alex Murphy and Kaleb Tarczewski lead St. Mark’s against Life Center Academy at 11:00a.m. followed by Andre Drummond and St. Thomas More taking on Hargrave Military Academy at 12:30p.m. and Michael Carter-Williams’ St. Andrew’s squad meeting Findlay Prep at 2:00.
Pat Connaughton will get things started at 9:00a.m. on Monday as St. John’s Prep faces Anthony Davis and Perspectives Charter School. There are more heavy hitters as the day continues including the likes of Christ the King (NY), St. Patrick (NJ), Findlay Prep (NV), Lincoln (TX), and others.

BABC Prep Classic
Eight of the top prep school teams in New England will converge on Chelsea High School for the second annual BABC Prep Classic this weekend. The action gets underway on Saturday at 1:00p.m. as Boston Trinity takes on Winchendon in a battle of Massachusetts schools. Brimmer and May will face off against Marianapolis Prep followed by two of the premier AA programs in all of the NEPSAC as Tilton faces St. Andrew’s at 4:00p.m.
Winchendon and Marianapolis will return to action on Sunday and open things open with a 1:00p.m. tip while Brimmer and May will face Wilbraham and Monson is a rematch of a hotly contested game from earlier this year at 2:30p.m. Nerlens Noel and his Tilton squad will return to the court at 4:00p.m. to take on a Worcester Academy program that features a number of local residents.

Connecticut Hoops Challenge
The second annual Connecticut Hoops Challenge returns to Central Connecticut State University this year. The event’s debut filled the stands of Detrick Gymnasium a year ago and the encore performance is expected to do just the same as eight talented programs from the CIAC will be in action on Monday.
The action will tip off at 2:30 when Sacred Heart High School battles St. Paul High School. New Britain faces off against Newington at 4:00 in a match-up between two neighboring rivals. The “Holy War” is scheduled for 6:15 as East Catholic and Northwest Catholic will lock up in one of the state’s most heated rivalries. Windsor High School will wrap up the evening as they face a talented Manchester team.
