Avery Brown 2022

Northfield Mount Hermon and PSA Cardinals point guard Avery Brown announced his commitment to Columbia University over the weekend.

The Connecticut native arrived at NMH in the fall of 2018 and put together a decorated career. He was just a sophomore when he set the school record for most assists in a game, handing out 17 dimes in a game at the Scholar Roundball Classic.

This year, he averaged 13.3 points and 4.4 assists while also dropping a season-high 36 points on Vermont Academy. In the process he helped NMH advance to the finals of both the NEPSAC AAA tournament as well as the National Prep Championship.

Brown competed on the Nike EYBL circuit with PSA Cardinals and was heavily recruited, with offers up to the high-major level, in recent years.

He is the 48th and final Ivy League commit for esteemed head coach John Carroll who recently stepped down.

“Avery has all of the ability to not only change the future of Columbia basketball, but also Ivy
League basketball,” said John Carroll. “I can’t think of a more dynamic duo coming into Columbia than Avery and Blair Thompson.”

He becomes the ninth member from NMH’s 2022 class to finalize their college plans, while also being the seventh to commit to a Division One program.
