Brooks Guard Earns D1 Ride

Brooks School senior guard Lavar Harewood made a verbal commitment to the University of Maine on Wednesday, accepting a full division I scholarship offer from the America East School.

Harewood is a New York native now in his third season at the Massachusetts prep school. He arrived as a strongly built slasher but has reinvented his game over the last couple of years, both changing his body and developing his perimeter skill set to become a true guard.

Now, he's a versatile combo-guard capable of seeing time at both positions but still strong enough to defend bigger wings as part of a three guard line-up.

Harewood was one of the stars of last June's Elite 75 College Showcase and went on to run with Sports U, a high powered program from New Jersey playing on the Under Armour Circuit.

His junior season highlights show the range of his versatility as someone who can make plays for himself off the dribble, knock down perimeter shots, or even facilitate for his teammates.
