Brewster’s Burton Commits to Marquette

Brewster Academy forward Deonte Burton put his recruitment to bed early on Friday night, making a verbal commitment to Marquette.

Burton is a Milwaukee native who spoke of the opportunity to play his college basketball close to home.

“Marquette is in Milwaukee and Milwaukee is home for me,” Burton told the Wisconsin Sports Network's Mark Miller. “Milwaukee also needs a change in the sense of having somebody to look up to. Being from Milwaukee and playing at Marquette, I hope I can be that kind of person for the young players in the city.”

The 36th ranked player in the ESPNU Super 60, Burton also held a scholarship offer from Illinois but was pound to pick up numerous other offers moving forward.

The six-foot-four forward first arrived at Brewster Academy last year as somewhat of a combo-forward who did his best work by virtue of his power and athleticism.  Less than a year later and his skill set has extended very smoothly to the perimeter.  He showed that this summer as he proved himself to be a true mismatch problem who could knock down open three-pointers as easily as he could post up smaller defenders.

With two more years left at Brewster before making his way to Buzz Williams, he should be ready to make an immediate impact on the Big East by the time he arrives in 2013.
