Jalen Lecque 2019

For the sixth time in the last ten years, Brewster Academy was crowned the National Prep Champions on Thursday night in New London, Connecticut.

This run was even more dramatic than the first five though as the Bobcats became the first team in the history of the thirteen-year event to win four games in root to their title.

Brewster opened with a 87-71 win over IMG Academy before knocking off top-seeded Woodstock Academy 82-80 in an epic quarterfinal match-up. Thursday it was a 91-73 semifinal win over Massanutten Military Academy in the semis follow by a 67-51 win over Scotland in the final.

While Jalen Lecque was named the tournament's MVP and Jamal Mashburn scored a team high 23 points in the final, different players stepped up at various times, especially  after Terrence Clarke went down with in injury in the semis. The high-major frontcourt trio of Alonzo Gaffney, Kai Jones, and Anthony Walker had perhaps their best collective day of the year on Thursday while senior big man Zane Meeks provided a constant spark with his floor spacing and three-point shooting. Ben Baker-McMann stepped up to play important minutes in both the semifinals and finals as well, including several key plays down the stretch of the win over Massanutten.
