Brant Byers Commits to Miami (OH)
This past weekend, Newman School/Team Thrill UAA 2024 6’8” small forward Brant Byers committed to Miami (OH), joining the RedHawks for the 2024-25 season.
By the time Byers announced that he would be taking his talents to Newman for the 2023-24 season back in June, he was already a well-known prospect, collecting offers from Maryland, Bradley, Hofstra, Southeastern Louisiana, Weber State, Bryant, Youngstown State, Southern Utah, American, Mount St. Mary’s, Lehigh, and Stonehill prior to his transfer.
However, following his announcement, he continued receiving commitments from the likes of Iona, New Hampshire, Marshall, Holy Cross, William & Mary, Bradley (re-offer), and finally Miami (OH), all while he was competing for Team Thrill on the UAA (Under Armour) Circuit.
Team Thrill dominated pool-play, winning all three games by double digits and one by over 30 points. They had to put up a bit more of a fight in the elimination games, winning their first round game by 5 and their second round game against by 4. The fun came to an end when they were defeated by New England’s own Middlesex Magic in the semifinals by just 3.
It will be exciting to see how Byers holds up in his only year with Newman, as he will be competing in the elite NEPSAC Class-AAA conference for the first time this upcoming season, before heading to Miami (OH) to compete in the MAC next year.
