Ben Defty Commits to Boston University
Just a couple of weeks ago, St. Thomas More 2024 7’0” big Ben Defty announced his commitment to Boston University for the next chapter of his basketball career.
Defty’s New England career has not been long, as he only transferred into the region this year to join St. Thomas More to compete in the NEPSAC’s elite Class-AAA.
He comes to New England from Germany, where he spent the 2022-23 season competing for club teams Berlin Braves (Nachwuchs Basketball Bundesliga) and TKS 49ers RSV Eintracht Stahnsdorf in Germany-Pro B (3rd Division).
More recently, he competed for the German U18 National Team at the FIBA U18 European Championship, in which Germany achieved third place after defeating France in the consolation game.
Defty tallied 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in a big win against Sweden, as well as 2 blocks in a victory over Turkey.
So far this year, he has seen success with the Chancellors of St. Thomas More, as the offer from Boston University came in just a couple of months after his move into the region.
He stood out at the National Prep Showcase the weekend following his commitment, dropping 17 points and grabbing 8 boards to go along with a couple blocks in a win over Massanutten Military Academy.
It will be interesting to watch Ben Defty over the next few years as he continues his career in New England with the BU Terriers…
