Baez Earns NE-10 Scholarship
Springfield Commonwealth Academy & Rhode Island Elite guard Alvin Baez announced his commitment to Adelphi yesterday.
Baez began his high school career at Cranston East. His sophomore year was particularly impressive for the Thunderbolts. Baez averaged more than 17 points per game in RIIL’s Division One.
He has played his last two seasons against elevated competition at Springfield Commonwealth Academy. Baez’s contributions helped SCA win 15 of their last 17 games this season and earn a two seed in the AAA Power 5 Conference Tournament.
Over on the AAU circuit, he played for Rhode Island Elite. Baez was a key cog for a team that had a successful 2022 summer competing in tournaments such as the Cali Live Summer Showcase and NY2LA Sports Final Chapter.
“Everyone at Rhode Island Elite is extremely proud of Alvin,” said Rhode Island Elite Co-Director Nick Light. “He has been a part of our program since he was 12 years old and is easily one of the hardest workers we have ever had.”
“We think Adelphi is a great fit for Alvin, Coach Duke and his staff do an amazing job developing guards. “With Ronnie Silva graduating this year, there is a big need for Alvin to come in and produce right away!”
Baez becomes the second member of SCA’s 2023 class who has finalized their plans to play at the scholarship level next season.
