BABC founder and u17 head coach Leo Papile will be honored with a community service award at the 25th anniversary gala of Greater Love Community Cares.
Papile, who was recently named Nike EYBL's Coach of the Year, founded the BABC in 1977 and built it into one of the premier AAU basketball programs in the country with a virtually unprecedented history including 17 national championships and 99 gold medals. During that time BABC has produced 17 NBA players, 12 McDonald's All-Americans and 211 NCAA scholarship athletes.
Papile's own career has spanned over forty years as a coach and executive including time in the NBA (Boston Celtics. 1997-2012, LA Clippers, 2015), NCAA Division I (Boston University, 1979-81, Cleveland State, 1984-87) and CBA (Quincy Chiefs, 1977-78, Maine Lumberjacks, 1981-83). He was also a court coach with USA Basketball in 2012.
In addition to the 211 young men that BABC has helped to earn a free college education, they've also given back by awarding Chelsea High School over $70,000 in scholarships through their five annual events including the Boston Shootout.
