BABC Wins AAU U19 Crown
The BABC juniors won the gold medal at the AAU Boys u19 nationals earlier this week, defeating RAP Stars from Upstate New York 67-50 in the final to win the program's 19th national championship.
The team went 7-0 on the week with Terrell Brown, Marcus Santos Silva and Corey Romich leading the way. Brown finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks in the championship game while Silva had 28 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Romich was on fire all week long, connecting on 40 threes over the course of the 7 games.
Bailey Patella added 10 points in the final while Justin Mazzulla handed out 12 assists.
Patella and Mazzulla also led a split squad into the u18 nationals (Brown, Silva and Romich only played u19) and advanced to the Elite 8 before falling to the eventual championships Alabama Challenge, ending the repeat bid after head coach Britney Papile's squad won the u16 nationals a year ago in Kentucky.
The BABC juniors currently hold a record of 71-11 in 2016 and recently completed their EYBL season by extending their streak as the only program in the country to qualify for the Peach Jam every year since the EYBL's inception in 2010.
The BABC sophomores were also at ESPN's Wide World of Sports at Disney World this week where they too advanced to the Elite 8 of the u16 nationals.
Both the 10th and 11th grade squads are set to remain in Florida this week, where they will be joined by the BABC 9th graders, to take part in the Gold Division of AAU's Super Showcase during the finals days of the evaluation period.
The 2016 AAU season was the 39th in BABC's history.
