BABC Wins 9th Grade National Championship
The Boston Amateur Basketball Club took their second national championship in as many years on Saturday night when their freshmen team defeated the Louisiana Jaguars 78-66 in Little Rock, Arkansas to capture the 9th grade national title.
Jonathan Joseph, Bonzie Colson, Tyree Robinson, Curtis Cobb, Gerard Adams, and eight grader Marcel Pettway are all products of the BABC Academy, having been with the program since its inaugural season in 2008.
Other members of the national championship team include Bobby Ahearn, Joey OConnell, Damian Smith, and Wayne Selden.
Selden arrived in Little Rock following the Lebron James Skills Academy, boarding a 5:00a.m. flight in order to make it to the gym by the 3pm tip. He scored 12 of his 20 points in the decisive fourth quarter to help break open a close game that saw BABC up 44-43 at the half.
The team is guided by first year head coach Egi McRae, who won five national championships as a player with the BABC from 1992-1995.
The BABC freshmen have an overall record of 60-2 this season, having won 11 of the 12 tournaments they have participated in. Their season will conclude in Orlando, Florida at the AAU Super Showcase from July 21st to the 24th.
