BABC to Host 40th Annual Boston Shootout

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) will host the 2012 Boston Shootout on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 1-3, at Tufts University's Cousens Gymnsium in Medford, MA. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the time-honored tournament that has annually featured some of the top youth basketball teams and players in the nation.

"We believe that the Boston Shootout is the oldest basketball tournament of its kind anywhere, and we have assembled a number of great programs for the 40th anniversary of the event," said Jay Demings, Shootout Tournament Director. "Given the expected talent, this should be one of the most competitive Shootout’s in recent memory."

This year’s tournament consists of a Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior division, where top talent will be on display all weekend on one main court. Participating clubs include the Albany City Rocks (NY), Middlesex Magic (MA), Connecticut Select, New England Playaz, East Coast Elite (CT), Maine Basketball Nation, The City (NY), Eric Gordon All-Stars (IN), Mass Rivals, USAD (CT) and tournament host BABC.

“There are so many tournament options for teams but, as the original team tournament in the country, the Boston Shootout has remained true to its history and tradition,” said Demings. “We take pride in ensuring that invited teams are all competitive, and that the participants have the best experience possible.”

As the Boston Shootout’s host organization since 1999, the BABC will have a team entry in all three divisions. The BABC Junior team competes in the highly competitive Nike Elite Youth Basketball League while its Sophomore and Freshmen teams are reigning Massachusetts and New England Regional Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Champions. The club has won a total of 88 New England AAU Gold Medals, 16 National Championships, and has made 27 National Finals along with 35 National Final Fours.  BABC Junior and Sophomore teams are both the reigning AAU National Champions.
