BABC Takes Boston Shootout
In a thrilling Sunday afternoon championship match-up, the BABC Juniors edged the New England Playaz 69-68 to claim the 42nd annual Boston Shootout title. The game proved to be back and forth for the duration, with each team building their largest lead of six points at various points in the 2nd half.
BABC, who led the EYBL in scoring defense this season, continued to utilize their trademark full court defense to force turnovers while key rebounds were had down the stretch by Terance Mann, B.J. Martin, and Jeremy Miller en route to the win.
The Playaz were able to counter with inside out forces of their own as Jarred Reuter and Jordy Tshimanga formed an imposing interior tandem with Corey Daugherty and Ian Sistare consistently burying tough threes.
BABC led 69-66 with 9.6 seconds to play when the Playaz got the ball back with one final chance to tie. They were able to quickly advance the ball up the right wing where Sistare was fouled taking a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left on the clock. He made two of three with a game ending rebound by Mann sealing the victory for BABC. Mann led all scorers with 31 points in the championship game.
The semi-final matches were well contested with BABC pulling out the victory over Connecticut Elite and the Playaz taking down a feisty Maine MAC squad. Mann and Miller led the way for BABC while Jaqwhan Walters proved to be a difference maker for CT Elite.
Sistare and Daugherty were equally hot from behind the three-point line to start the day for the Playaz while Maine MAC was led by Kyle Bouchard, Nicholas Mayo, and Ben Malloy.
