Azmar Abdullah Commits to Boston University
Last weekend, Vermont Academy/BCRI 2024 lefty 6’3” point guard/shooting guard Azmar Abdullah committed to Boston University for the 2024-2025 season. He also received offers from American, NJIT, New Hampshire, and FDU, as well as a Division II offer from Southern New Hampshire.
Abdullah has already proven himself to be not only a winner, but a champion, time and time again, as he helped bring Bishop Hendricken to three consecutive RIIL State Championships as a sophomore, junior, and senior.
Following last season’s title (the third of the three-peat), Abdullah was named 2023 Gatorade Rhode Island Player of the Year for his performance throughout the season, as he averaged 23 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game while leading Hendricken to yet another RIIL State Championship.
As Abdullah was not yet satisfied with the choices for his college career, he opted to take a post-grad year at Vermont Academy, joining the NEPSAC’s AAA conference for this year’s upcoming season.
He is currently a top-30 recruit in New England on NERR’s Class of 2024 Rankings, as well as one of just the top couple of recruits in the state of Vermont.
“I appreciate Coach Jones for giving me this opportunity to live out my dream of playing D1 basketball,” said Abdullah in talks with NERR. “Also, the players did a great job welcoming me into their BU family when I committed,” he ultimately concluded.
It will be fun to watch the New England-native compete at the level he had hoped, right here in his home region…
