2023 Randolph College Showcase
Thursday night (September 28th), twenty players from the Class of ‘24 came to Randolph HS (MA) to compete in front of college coaches. The action was competitive, fast and hard nosed as each player raised the level of the next guy. Here are some of the standout prospects from the night:
FRONTCOURT:
Jefferson Smock, 6’8”, Big, Oliver Ames - Live body, athletic big who at times overwhelmed the competition with his relentless motor…selfless screener and rim runner with very good hands…defensively, he communicates well and finishes possessions with rebounds in and out of his area…best basketball is ahead of him.
Mikell Orelus, 6’6”, Forward, Randolph - Active motor on both sides of the ball…good touch on jumpshots…developing a driving game…impacts shots at the rim…great length for position…willing, versatile defender.
Mohamad Tarjali, 6’6”, Big, Quincy - Big man showed a willingness to do the dirty work…physical player that holds his own on the glass…vocal and passionate communicator defensively…willing screener and team player offensively.
WINGS:
Michael Porter, 6’3”, Wing, Scituate - Fundamentally sound player…consistent deep shooter with quick release…elite defensive IQ…Terrific communicator…Adept at using ball-fakes to either free himself up for mid-range jump-shots or open up passing lanes.
Matt Youngquist, 6’4”, Wing, Middleboro - Shooter that can handle the ball on the break…makes plays for others…excels in transition…consistently puts pressure on defense in both half court and in transition.
Michael Scully, 6’2”, Wing, Marshfield - He's a specialist with his ability to make shots from three point range…Quickest release on a jumper of all players…loves the corners…ideal floor spacing wing…Moves well without the ball.
Jordan Nash, 6’3”, Wing, Randolph - Athlete that is long and covers lots of ground in a hurry…good transition finisher…relentless driver…can make a corner 3…cuts, offensive rebounds, runs the floor, willing defender.
Edric Louissaint, 6’4”, Wing, Weymouth - Great at attacking gaps with right hand…good athlete that can make plays in the pick and roll game…made a game winning drive in the first session.
POINTS AND COMBOS:
Nathan Rateau, 5’11”, Guard, Brockton - Keeps defenders off balance with his change of pace game…makes shots both off-catch and off-dribble…combo guard that can set up teammates or score when attacking basket with either hand…likes to make lead passes in transition…always keeps his head up.
Danny Adams, 6’0”, PG, Quincy - Attacks the basket well with right hand…has a nice lay-up package in both transition & in half court…puts pressure on defense when in transition…good shooter from deep if you duck under the ball screen…can pass to open teammates off the dribble..
Tristan Rodriguez, 5’11”, PG, Archbishop Williams - Nice touch around the basket with a variety of floaters and finishes…really does a nice job keeping teammates involved…never in a rush…plays like a kid that just won a State Championship.
Lawrence Davis, 6’3”, PG, New Mission - Loves to play in the pick and roll game…good at getting to the paint with either hand and will pass when the defense rotates to him…solid frame for a guard that plays to contact with his broad shoulders.
