2019 National Prep Championship field announced
Prep Circuit announced the field for the 2019 National Prep Championship on Monday afternoon.
The event will take place next Wednesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 7th at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
The final bracket will be announed later this week following the conclusion of various conference play-offs, including the NEPSAC on Sunday.
Scotland Campus Sports
Location: Scotland, PA
Record: 33-0
Notable wins: Northfield Mount Hermon, Mt. Zion IMG Academy, MacDuffie School
The Skinny: Head coach Chris Chaney puts up his best regular season in school history. Led by Dequarius Nichols, Austin Galuppo and Pitt commit Karim Coulibaly.
Putnam Science Academy Mustangs
Location: Putnam, CT
Record: 34-1
Notable wins: Mt. Zion Prep, Sunrise Christian PGB, MacDuffie School, Patrick School, Cushing Academy, St. Thomas More
The Skinny: Tom Espinosa's bunch is uber-talented and super deep. Had a 49-game win streak snapped for their only loss, but the defending National Prep Championship winners will be a favorite heading into New London.
Woodstock Academy Centaurs
Location: Woodstock, CT
Record: 34-1
Notable wins: Link Year Prep, St. Andrew's School, Sunrise Christian PGB, New Hampton, Orangeville Prep, IMG Academy, Massanutten Military
The Skinny: Head coach Tom Bergeron has had his team clicking on all cylinders all season long. Long loss was 3-point defeat to Brewster Academy. Noah Fernandes, Tre Mitchell, TJ Weeks and Tre Williams have been huge for the Centaurs.
Brewster Academy Bobcats
Location: Brewster, NH
Record: 29-6
Notable wins: Northfield Mount Hermon, New Hampton, Patrick School, Woodstock Gold
The Skinny: On paper and in the player rankings, the Bobcats are the most talented team in the field. Led by Ohio State commit Alonzo Gaffney, NC State commit Jalen Lecque, Cal commit Joel Brown, Texas commit Kai Jones and 2020 No. 1 Terrence Clarke.
Northfield Mount Hermon Hoggers
Location: Gill, MA
Record: 30-5
Notable wins: Brewster Academy, New Hampton (twice), CBD Montverde, Cushing Academy
The Skinny: Harvard commit Chris Ledlum and Penn commit Max Lorca-Lloyd lead an explosive bunch led by head coach John Carroll.
Mt. Zion Prep Warriors
Location: Lanham, MD
Record: 26-4
Notable wins: Brewster Academy, Massanutten Military, IMG Academy, Link Year, Hargrave
The Skinny: Led by seniors Ayinde Hikim, Rob Carpenter and junior Woody Newton, the Warriors have won 15 of their past 16 games. The lone loss was a 5-point nailbiter to No. 1 Scotland Campus.
Hargrave Military Academy Tigers
Location: Hargrave, VA
Record: 33-3
Notable wins: Mt. Zion Prep, IMG Academy, SPIRE, Fork Union
The Skinny: Head coach Lee Martin with another tremendous campaign. Tigers will be led by Jeremiah Davenport, Justin Webster and Tennessee commit Davonte Gaines.
Massanutten Military Academy Colonels
Location: Woodstock, VA
Record: 30-3
Notable wins: Hargrave Academy, Fork Union, SPIRE Institute, Beckley Prep
The Skinny: Won 24 of last 25 games. NC State commit Dereon Seabron (6-foot-7) leads the tallest team in the field that includes Jarvis Vaughan (6-foot-8), Mahamadou Diawara (6-foot-10) and lead guard and VCU commit Jarren McAllister (6-foot-3).
IMG Academy Ascenders
Location: Bradenton, FL
Record: 23-8
Notable wins: MacDuffie School, Sunrise Christian, CBD Montverde, Fork Union
The Skinny: Head coach John Rhodes & the Ascenders have won 20 of their past 22 games. Lester Quinones, Pat Kelly and TJ Shannon lead the way for a deep, talented Ascenders squad that is blossoming late.
Link Year Prep Lions
Location: Branson, MO
Record: 22-5
Notable wins: Brewster Academy, Sunrise Christian PGB, Three Rivers College, Labette CC
The Skinny: Rattled off 13 straight midseason wins. Head coach Adam Donyes will lean on a deep, defensive-minded bunch led by Chase Adams, Dannie Smith & Shamar and Lamar Wright.
