Yale Lands Guard

Yale University picked up a verbal commitment from St. Louis native Javier Duren on Thursday.  The commitment was first reported by Antonio Curro of NY2LASports.com.  He chose the Bulldogs over Princeton and Columbia according to Curro while also generating additional interest from Loyola and Tennessee-Martin.

Duren is a six-foot-four guard who stars at Oakville High School in St. Louis, Missouri.  Last season, he averaged 10 points, 3 assists, and shot 45% from the three-point line as a junior while the Tigers finished with a 27-5 record and advanced to the finals of the Missouri state tournament.

A long and athletic guard who possesses the size and ball skills to play either backcourt position, Duren is capable of playing either backcourt position.

Duren visited Yale two weeks ago and becomes the second player to commit to Yale in the class of 2011, joining Matt Townsend, a six-foot-six power forward from Chappaqua High School in New York.
