Worcester Sniper Signs

Fort Myers, Fla (fgcuathletics.com) - Christophe Varidel, a 6-2 guard from Worcester Academy in Worcester, Mass., became the newest member of the FGCU men's basketball program, head coach Dave Balza announced.

“Christophe is a terrific young man and we are very excited to add him to our roster for the 2010-11 season,” said Balza. “He is the shooter that we really need and will have four years of eligibility, but he is not your typical high school player. He has had success against quality competition at the international level, so that experience should help him make an immediate impact on our program.”

Varidel, who led his team in three-point percentage (.410) and three-pointers made (68) last season, joins Marlon Rivera, Chase Fieler and Kevin Cantinol as newcomers to the Eagle program for the 2010-11 season.

Varidel, averaged 17.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists as a senior. The Versoix, Switzerland native was a member of the Switzerland U20 squad in the 2009 European Championships. In seven games with the national team he averaged 19.3 points in 28.6 minutes per game, while shooting 54-percent from the field and 36.5-percent from long range.
