Worcester Academy Forward Commits
Joe Muvana is headed to the MAAC. The Worcester Academy forward made a verbal commitment to Loyola last week and is said to have also signed his National Letter of Intent.
Muvana saw limited action off the bench in Worcester Academy’s season opening victory over Lee Academy on Sunday at the National Prep Showcase playing behind Genesis Maciel in Worcester’s single post offense.
While Muvana is still somewhat raw offensively, his ability to rebound the ball and defend should be of immediate value to Loyola Head Coach Jim Pastos. And while his offensive contribution might not be felt as immediately, he has a good deal of potential on that end of the floor as well.
According to sources the Loyola coaching staff was immediately intrigued by Muvana’s abilities after seeing him for the first time this fall in a Worcester open gym. In fact when we visited the Massachusetts prep school at the end of September, Loyola assistant coach Brian Blaney was already making his second visit to the school.
Ultimately, whenever a mid-major program can land a promising big man with high levels of athleticism, agility, and energy they have to jump all over him…and that is exactly what Loyola did. Consequently they land a player who could end up paying big dividends for them down the road.
