Wolf Makes UConn Debut

It has been a big week for Enosch Wolf as he suited up with his Wilbraham & Monson team as recently as last week and made his debut for the University of Connecticut on Monday night, scoring four points in three minutes of action against Coppin State.

Wolf made a verbal commitment to the Huskies this summer along with fellow German product Niels Giffey, but while Giffey enrolled at the school right away, Wolf headed for a year of post-graduate work to prepare for life in the Big East.

“When Enosch came here it was with the understanding that he was working to prepare for UConn as best he could, whether it be second semester of this year or next year,” Wilbraham & Monson coach Chris Sparks said last week.

“He’s lost 15 pounds since he’s been here, he’s started to adjust to the American game, and his English and his writing skills have really improved,” Sparks said.  “Obviously you can’t compare our level to the Big East so he has a lot more adjusting to do but because of his sheer size and his presence I think UConn will be able to use him in some capacity.”

“He's working to get back in shape and he's done a reasonable job with that,” Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun said last week.  “There will be a lot of adjustments for him to make. I have to take it as, 'Let's see what he does in practice, and we'll go from there.' Just like everybody else, except I hope and expect his learning curve to be better. He's played a lot of basketball."

Wolf enrolled at UConn for the second semester and became eligible for his first practice on Sunday.  With a lack of depth in their front line, Wolf saw action in his very first game just a day later and appears to be someone who the Huskies could use in small spurts throughout the rest of the season.

“It’s difficult to come in for the second part of the year but I think because of his size and his basketball I.Q. he’ll be able to do it,” Sparks said.  “He has a really high I.Q., is a terrific passer, and has a terrific feel for the game, those are his best attributes.”
