Wheeler Sniper Picks Grinnell
Wheeler School senior guard Nate Balcom made a commitment to Grinnell College last week.
A private liberal arts college in Iowa, Grinnell is a division III school with a nationally recognized basketball program.
Led by head coach David Arsenault, the Pioneers have led all NCAA programs in scoring in 18 of the last 20 years while also ranking first in three-point shooting in 16 of the last 20 seasons.
The sharp-shooting Balcom should be an asset in that style of play. He's a three time All-SENE selection who has scored 1140 points in his career to date while also knocking down 225 three-pointers.
Last season, Balcom averaged over 17 points per game while knocking down 61 three-pointers while leading Wheeler to a SENE championship and the semifinals of the NEPSAC Class B tournament.
"Nate has been an integral part of Wheeler's success the last few seasons. By guiding the Wheeler basketball team to its first SENE Championship in 23 years, he has also helped establish a current barometer of success for his teammates and future Wheeler players," Wheeler head coach Sean Kelly said. "Nate has been an absolute pleasure to coach and his game, personality, and work ethic will translate well at Grinnell on the next level."
Wheeler is currently off to a 6-2 start to the 2013-2014 season while Balcom is averaging over 14 points per game.
