Weekend News and Notes

Hamilton Adds Another Shooter

Last year Hamilton College head coach Tobin Anderson came into New England and scooped up two of our best shooters in Ephraim McDowell and Russ Rosenband.  This year he’s already added another in Eric Benvenuti.  And while Benvenuti can no doubt stroke the ball from the perimeter, he has a complete skill set that allows him to score points in a variety of different ways.  Combine that with his 6’6” frame at the small forward position and it is easy to see why he is a player with such a tremendous upside.  Good score for Hamilton as they continue to be a major factor in New England recruiting.

Lynch NESCAC Bound

Middlebury College has added Peter Lynch to the fold for next year.  Lynch is a do it all type of role playing forward in the mold of the Boston Celtics’ Brian Scalabrine.  He’s a physical interior presence, an extremely hard worker on both ends of the floor, and someone who doesn’t need a lot of shots to impact the game.  Simply said, he’s the kid of guy who helps his team win.  The Westford Academy senior shined with the Boston Warriors during AAU play.

Desrosiers Gets a Visit from the National Champions

Carson Desrosiers continues to be one of the hottest recruits not just in the region but in the country.  The list of high major schools that have been in to see his 6am workouts at Central Catholic every day is long and distinguished.  But it doesn’t get any more impressive than the defending national champions, the University of Kansas, who sent associate head coach Joe Dooley in to see the skilled big man on Thursday morning.

Odom/Middlesex School Holding Last Workout

The Middlesex School held four workouts early in the fall giving college coaches the opportunity to come in and see 6’8” swingman Rod Odom.  With head coaches like Georgetown’s John Thompson III and Stanford’s Johnny Dawkins still trying to come in, Middlesex head coach Jamie Gallagher scheduled a final workout for this Sunday.  JT3 is just one of the high major head coaches expected to be in attendance.
