VA’s Ayres D1 Bound

Vermont Academy post-graduate Raphe Ayres from Washington, DC announced his commitment to Missouri State, accepting a full athletic scholarship offer from the Missouri Valley school.

“Raphe gave us big time toughness and leadership all season long. It was an absolute pleasure to coach him,” said head coach Alex Popp.

Ayres is a skilled big wing loaded with intangibles who was often tasked with defending the opposing team's top threat.

He averaged 10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists this year while also shooting 40% from behind the three-point line. He played his best basketball down the stretch of the season, including a 25-point 9-rebound effort over Hoosac and a 22-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist outing in a win over Tilton.

Ayres is the third member of VA's 2020 class to have committed to a D1 school and the 21st D1 commit in Popp's six year tenure as the program's head coach.
