Vann, Turner Thrive in Return

Isaac Vann and Matt Turner both made successful returns to their home state on Sunday at the National Prep Showcase.

Vann, who graduated from Bunnell High School last year after leading his team to consecutive SWC championships, is currently doing a post-graduate year at Coastal Academy in New Jersey. Matt Turner, who spent his first two seasons at Trumbull High School, reclassified at Blair Academy this year, also in New Jersey.

Vann was Coastal’s best player on Sunday, scoring a game high 23 points while also pulling in 6 rebounds and picking off 2 steals in a loss to Brewster Academy. The six-foot-five swingman walked away with offers from Manhattan and Kennesaw State as a result of his performance, adding to a list that already included Monmouth, Maine, Wagner, Sacred Heart, and Canisius.

Tahj Eddy, another Connecticut native, also looked good for Coastal, scoring 12 points and knocking down a pair of threes.

Later in the day on Sunday, Turner was no less impressive in his Blair debut – scoring a team high 19 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. He stepped up after seniors Elijah Burns (Notre Dame) and Tim Delaney (Villanova) both went down with injury, but ultimately Blair still fell to Tilton.

Turner, who seems to have added an inch or so following his last game in the CIAC, found himself on the cover of Scout.com following his performance on Sunday and with three seasons still left to play in the prep ranks, he’s now placed his name on the high-major radar.
