URI Lands another Impact Transfer
The University of Rhode Island picked up a commitment from Jarelle Reischel on Wednesday night, a six-foot-six freshman transfer from Rice University, who will have to sit out next year per NCAA transfer rules but then have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in the fall of 2013.
Reischel is a German native who spent the final three years of high high school career in New Jersey before heading to Rice, where he averaged just under six points and three rebounds during his freshman season while starting 13 games for the Owls, including ten during the conference season.
He becomes the fourth player to commit to new URI head coach Danny Hurley since he took the program over earlier this month, joining Rutgers transfer Gilvydas Biruta, former Wagner signee Mike Aaman, and Jordan Haire, who previously signed under former head coach Jim Baron.
Reischel is a perimeter forward with a versatile skill set and high basketball I.Q. He's an excellent passer and even able to operate as a point forward type facilitator in the frontcourt.
