URI Gets Another Good One

KINGSTON, R.I. - Head coach Jim Baron announced that P.J. Lockridge has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic endeavors at the University of Rhode Island, beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

"We are elated to have P.J. join our basketball family," Baron said. "He is a tremendously athletic player, who will complement our uptempo style of play."

Lockridge, a 6-foot, 5-inch, 200-pound forward is a native of Racine Wis. and was a standout player at Heat Academy (Martinsville, Va.) where he played for the past two seasons under the direction of head coach Jason Niblett. He selected Rhody over Baylor and Auburn.  He had also taken a visit to Louisville.

In his first season at Heat Academy, Lockridge averaged 22 points per game. This past year, he averaged 18 points and six rebounds on a team that featured nine division I players.

Lockridge is also the nephew of former Connecticut star Caron Butler, who now plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

Lockridge joins another high-major caliber swingman in URI's recruiting class in six-foot-five swingman Tashawn Mabry who signed last month
