Unsigned Spotlight - Jeremy Remigio

For many high school seniors, the opportunity for prep school provides a contingency plan if they don't end up with the options they want out of their recruitment.

Beyond that though, some players can chose the junior college route, where they'll play their first two years of college basketball, finish with an associate's degree, and then transfer to another institution for the remainder of their eligibility and coursework towards a bachelor's degree.

We've talked a lot in recent weeks about how unsigned seniors have been impacted by the coronavirus, but the impact on unsigned junior college prospects has been perhaps even worse, because there are no contingency plans left.

While New England's prep schools have always made them an unnatural region for junior colleges, CCRI is a notable selection and unsigned guard Jeremy Remigio a terrific example of the type of player we're talking about, whose pursuit of a four-year school to finish his career and degree at has been severely impacted by the current pandemic.

Remigio is a Rhode Island native who graduated from Central High School in 2018 before heading to CCRI, where he stuffed the stat sheet for the last two years and ran the show for a team that advanced to the finals of the NJCAA D3 Championships.

Personal Statement

I am a pass first point guard whose size and strength allows me to get into the paint easily and play off the ball when necessary. As evident by my numbers as captain of the CCRI team that went on a natinoal championship run this past season, my game is very well-rounded as I can rebound at a very efficient level and also find the open shooters after getting to the paint. I'm looking to find the right institution that is looking for an unselfish, hard-working guard.

Recommendations

"For the past year and a half I have watched Jeremy Remigio work in practice,  and this past year help lead us to the New England Region 21 Championship and a trip to the NJCAA DIII National Tournament. Jeremy is a very unorthodox point guard but a very effective one. Jeremy with his thick build, displayed some very powerful play around the basket for us this past year. He has some nice post moves in his arsenal and is a strong offensive rebounder. Near the basket Jeremy is a threat as a potential three point play finisher. On the perimeter Jeremy runs an offense like a veteran as he is very sure with the ball and gets it where it needs to be. Jeremy also is very capable at knocking down the mid range jumpshot when defenses help off of him. At the defensive end Jeremy keeps people in front of him and is great at leading transition off the outlet or even a rebound he has secured. Not a traditional quick and flashy playmaker, Jeremy instead uses a savvy game and great court IQ to get the job done. After a year of playing junior college basketball at a championship level, Jeremy Remigio is well prepared and game ready to step in and help lead a four year program to its seasonal and post season goals."
- Rick Harris, Head Coach, Community College of Rhode Island

"Jeremy is a strong point guard with a high IQ that has tremendous court vision. Jeremy is deceivingly quick, which allows him to get into the paint and disrupt defenses. Once there, he has tremendous footwork and touch to finish at the rim or make a pass to get his teammates easy baskets. In transition, he has his excellent court vision and makes his teammates better by putting them in position to score. Jeremy is extremely hard working, has tremendous character and is a strong competitor, which has allowed him to excel in high school and college. He is a proven leader and winner who led CCRI to Nationals this year and will no doubt continue to improve because of his work ethic and skills. He would be a tremendous asset to any program and is ready to step in immediately and lead a team."

Scouting Report

A big-bodied pure point guard, Remigio creates constant mismatch problems because he not only overpowers smaller guards but he understands how to maximize his physical advantages. He's extremely crafty with the ball in his hands. He handles, sees the floor, and changes pace extremely well, and to both directions. He's an excellent passer off the dribble and has an advanced finishing package around the rim, augmented by exceptional footwork inside the lane. He's a more than capable shooting threat from behind the arc as well as an excellent rebounding guard.
