Unsigned Senior Spotlight - Michael Harris

Providence Country Day's Michael Harris isn't a guy who is going to blow you away with 30-point games.

He is, however, someone that is raved about by every coaches he has played for...for his work-ethic, his desire to improve, his intangibles, and impact on culture.

He's also a coach's son who understands how to play the game the right way and is about winning first and foremost, and proven himself a college basketball player in the process.

Personal Statement

I am a big guard that is comfortable playing both the 1 and 2. I am an exceptional shooter, being able to hit the three as well as mid range pull ups. One of my go-to moves is a turn around post shot that I use very effectively, especially against same or smaller defenders. I rebound well for my position utilizing the length I possess and good positioning  technique.  I am also a strong passer with a high IQ, and know when and where to give teammates the ball in the best position to be effective. I pride myself on my play at the defensive end by not letting people take my feet and being able to stay in front using angles. I am looking to find a great college fit where I can pursue my degree and continue my basketball development. I feel I have much room to grow.

Recommendations

"As one of Michael’s basketball coaches during his time in high school at Providence Country Day I have found Michael to always play hard, display confidence, be respectful of all players and show great dignity and class at all times. He displays these same qualities not only on the basketball court, but also in his day to day life. Michael is always ready to rise to the challenge...Michael is a talented and skillful player. Michael deserves a lot of credit for helping to change the culture and basketball team at Providence Country Day. Michael can score, handle pressure, rebound, plays solid defense, and most importantly, has great vision. He makes his teammates better and has an understanding for the game that few teenagers have. Michael can play guard and forward. He has great guard skills and also has the body to play against larger competitors. Michael also has a deep love of the game. He is always learning, asking questions, and helping his teammates. Michael is the first to arrive and stays after practice to shoot, lift, and get more work in. He is on a mission to get better every single day."
- Evan Lancia, Assisant Coach, Providence Country Day

"Michael is a taller guard who has worked hard to improve all aspects of his game. During his time as part of our R.I. Magic program, he has been one of our most consistently improving players.  He has worked particularly hard on his shooting and improved his three-point shooting to 41% this high school season. He is also solid from the free throw line and shot 78% this year. Mike is also able to play down low because of his size and rebound against bigger players. Michael plays the game while utilizing a strong court I.Q. He is continuing to develop his overall game and with his work ethic and desire to improve, should continue to develop at the next level."
- Dave Tedeschi, Director, Rhode Island Magic

“Michael has great size and shooting ability for his position. He also has a high IQ and court vision for a kid that plays off the ball. Michael’s drive and work ethic set him apart from most other kids I’ve worked with. He is always looking to improve his game and push himself to his limits to get better, which makes him a joy to coach and train.”
- Kevin Donahue, Assistant Coach, Northfield Mount Hermon School

Scouting Report

Harris is a "blend player" or complimentary piece who impacts winning without needing to score a ton of points or take a lot of shots. He plays the game the right way and prioritizing winning above his own personal statistics or accolades. He is a willing passer who plays unselfishly, has a high IQ, and is an evolving shooter. He provides numerous other intangibles as coaches rave about his motor and work-ethic. He also has solid perimeter size, the potential to play multiple positions, and a frame that should fill-out nicely inside a college weight room.
