Unsigned Senior Spotlight - Evan Young

Evan Young is a Rhode Island native who has been on a quest to prove that he is a scholarship caliber prospect in recent years.

That journey started at St. Andrew's, intensified in the grassroots ranks for EVO and included a strong showing at last summer's Elite 75 College Showcase, when he attracted attention from a variety of division II and III coaches.

This year, Young spent his final year in the prep ranks at the Master's School in Connecticut, where he continued to develop his game.

Personal Statement

As a team player with a high playmaking ability I always look to get my teammates involved and engaged from tip off to the last possession. I also pride myself on defense, regularly picking up my man full court and being completely satisfied with not having a scorer's role as I try to be an impactful player in all aspects of the game. Another important trait that I have is being a complete floor general for my teammates while acting as an extension of the coach on the floor. I have also realized how valuable it is to be a leader on and more importantly off the court. So that our team can achieve our full potential and get wins for our coaching staff and school community. Lastly my work ethic is tailored towards Kobe Bryant as he has been my motivation since I first started playing. I realized that this work ethic is necessary because I am a smaller guard who wants to accomplish big things for any program who gives me the chance to play for them.

Recommendation

"Evan, has played for me over four years and during that time I have seen him become a skilled point guard with an incredible motor and a tireless work ethic.  He is the first one in the gym and the last person to leave. He is a sponge when it comes to coaching.  He is extremely coachable and has a very high IQ on the court as well as the classroom.  He is able to read the defense three steps ahead.  He is able to find the open man in transition or create off the dribble to find open shooters. Evan can score from all three levels and has unshakeable confidence in high pressure situations.  He will cover the point guard 94’ and will create havoc forcing teams into turnovers."
- Maurice Taylor, Director, Prodigy Basketball Program

"Evan is an extremely hard-worker. Every practice, he's drenched in sweat and going as hard as he can. He tries to be an extension of the coach on the floor and will get you into offense. He knows where guys are supposed to be on the floor and can impact the game on both ends."
- Tobias Ceasar, Head Coach, Master's School

Scouting Report

Young is a compact and strong lead guard with a high-motor. He's a very good on-ball defender who can get under opposing ball-handlers, pressure the ball, and even make plays on that end of the floor. Offensively, he's a true point guard who understands how to run the show and keep his team organized. He's a consistent catch-and-shoot floor spacing presence and also able to absorb contact off the dribble because of his strong base and low center of gravity.
