UMass Lands Transfer

The University of Massachusetts earned a commitment from Hofstra transfer Chaz Williams on Friday afternoon.  Williams had visited the Amherst campus earlier in the week.

A New York native who starred at Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn prior to arriving at Hofstra, Williams held down the starting point guard position for virtually his entire freshman season with the Pride.  He averaged over 7 points and 4 assists per game while earning All-Rookie honors in the Colonial Athletic Conference.

Williams received his release from Hofstra when newly appointed head coach Tim Welsch was let go only days after taking over the program from Tom Pecora, who had left to take the head coaching job at Fordham.

Williams was also courted by Rutgers and Seton Hall but cancelled those visits following his trip to UMass.
