UMass Gets a Unique Guard

New England Recruiting Report | Wednesday, June 10th, 2015

UMass kicked off what is expected to be a big 2016 recruiting class with a local prep product on Tuesday when Unique McLean committed to the Minutemen.

The six-foot-one guard spent his junior sesason at nearby MacDuffie School after beginning his high school career at the Hoosac School. McLean has run with the PSA Cardinals, previously Team Scan, for his entire grassroots career.

One of the most explosive athletes in the country, McLean became a YouTube sensation at a young age as his ability to explode above the rim was unparalleled, especially in his age group.

He's worked hard in recent years to expand his game and become a more consistent shooter and ball-handler, but his best potential still comes from from attacking the basket, getting out in transition and embracing the chance to use his physical tools on the defensive end of the floor.

He joins Omari Spellman, who committed to Villanova earlier this year, to become the second member of MacDuffie's 2016 class to come off the board.
