Two More off the Board

Francisco Alonso 2015

While the emphasis shifted to the class of 2016 with the beginning of the evaluation period last weekend, there are still plenty of quality players left uncommitted in 2015.

That list decreased by two this weekend when Cushing Academy guard Francisco Alonso and Notre Dame Prep guard Jerry Johnson both came off the board. Alonso committed to North Carolina Greensboro following an official visit while Johnson pledged to Fairfield and both are expected to make immediate contributions.

UNCG couldn't have done much better in landing Alonso, a high skilled and equally smart six-foot-three guard who did a post-graduate year at Cushing after starring on Spain's junior national team last summer. He had gotten a steady dose of mid-major recruitment throughout the year and was just starting to ping the high-major radar.

Johnson is a big and powerful combo-guard who consistently raised the level of his play throughout his post-graduate season at Notre Dame Prep and now joins Curtis Cobb to give the Stags a very good incoming backcourt.

Even with Alonso and Johnson now off the board, there are still several players who are both available and qualified including Vermont Academy swingman Ronnie Suggs, Notre Dame Prep forward Jarrell Brantley, South Kent center Jovan Grujic, Canterbury big man Brandon Aughburns, Suffield Academy guard Juwan Anderson, Tilton swingman Franklin Porter, Worcester Academy forward Ben Marello, Notre Dame Prep wing Kris Clyburn, St. Thomas More shooter Ryan Funk and KUA guard Crew Ainge among others.
