Felder Earns D1 Opportunity
Malden Catholic & Team Spartans point guard Tony Felder committed to VMI earlier this month.
Felder had a decorated high school career at Malden Catholic. He led the Lancers to the 2022 MIAA D1 State Championship, averaging 23 points, 9.4 assists, and 3.2 steals. Felder finished his career as Malden Catholic’s all time leader in assists and second all time in scoring.
On the AAU circuit, he played with Team Spartans. Felder was a key cog in helping them get nationally ranked as a non-shoe team. He is the fifth D1 commit from Team Spartans 2022 team.
“Tony is an unbelievable leader who can be your traditional point guard or your modern day point guard who scores 30 plus,” said Team Spartans 2022 head coach Joe Chatman. “He dropped 40 in his last high school game with the state championship."
“Tony will be able to contribute at VMI right away. Coach Wilson believes that he can be a special component to their team this year. He also is going into college as a true freshman, never reclassified or attended prep school.”
Felder becomes the first member of Malden Catholic’s 2022 class who has finalized their plans to play college basketball next year.
