Tilton’s Leach Bound for MAAC
Tilton School's Jalen Leach, who was one of the best available guards left on the board in the class of 2020, announced his verbal commitment to Fairfield and head coach Jay Young on Tuesday afternoon.
Leach began his high school career at Bergen Catholic in New Jersey before spending the last two years in the New England prep ranks. His pledge to the Stags brings him back close to his hometown.
He made an immediate impact last year for the Rams and seemed to be on his way to a big EYBL season in the spring with the New York Lightning before being derailed by a pair of fluke injuries.
That and the shorted summer recruiting period, resulted in him returning for his senior season without quite the same level of recruitment that his talent dictated.
Nevertheless, Leach continued to impress this year, just as he had done the season prior.
A big, skilled guard, Leach stands at 6-foot-3 and has a terrific looking stroke and developing weapon from behind the three-point line. He doesn't get sped up and has a good instinctive feel for the game which allows him to play either on or off the ball, making him a true combo guard.
At Fairfield, he'll provide some much-needed offense for a club that topped 60 points just twice in their last 16 games and also join another former local prep product from New Hampshire as former Proctor Academy guard Caleb Green will become eligible next season after sitting out this year following his transfer from Holy Cross.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout this long journey! Major thanks to my family for their support. Thank you to all my friends, former high school coaches, Coach Oneil, and former teammates. Happy to announce my commitment to Fairfield! Go stags! pic.twitter.com/laWwpD8a7z
