This Week’s Notable Performances

Romeo Diaz – Methuen HS (Methuen, MA):  The 6’5” swingman erupted for arguably the best game the region has seen thus far this year.  Not only did he have 50 points, but he also had a triple double as he finished with 51 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists powering Methuen to a 98-96 triple overtime victory over Dracut.  With his team trailing by three at the end of the first extra frame, he drove the length of the floor and drained a 3-pointer from the wing at the buzzer to tie it.

Phil Pressey & Matt Pressey – Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, MA):  The Pressey brothers shined this weekend at the National Prep School Invitational as they defeated Massanutten Military Academy 75-67 and fell to Notre Dame Prep by only 10 points.  Phil had 18 points, 11 assists, 8 steals, and forced two 5 second calls against Massanutten and single handedly dismantled Notre Dame’s full court pressure a day later while scoring another 15 points.  Matt had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists against Massanutten and 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocks versus Notre Dame Prep. 

Rod Odom & Scott Anderson – Middlesex School (Concord, MA):  The duo stepped up to lead Middlesex to an upset of sorts over St. Sebastian’s.  Playing the point forward position, Odom had 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists while Anderson scored a game high 35 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, and snatched 4 steals.  Later in the week Middlesex handled Groton 79-68.  Odom had 18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks while Anderson had 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. 

Danquah Rawlins – Tabor Academy (Marion, MA):  The junior forward had a big week.  On Wednesday he scored 25 points (including 19 in the first half) to go along with 12 rebounds as Tabor defeated Andover.  Saturday he scored another 15 against Thayer, including the game winning bucket as he drove the baseline and sunk a reverse lay-up as time expired. 

Francisco Luano – Boston Trinity (Boston, MA):  He had 31 points, 17 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots against Landmark as Boston Trinity finished their regular season with a record of 22-1. 

Tyler Patch – Seekonk HS (Seekonk, MA):  He had 44 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in a 77-60 win over Bourne.  He also had four three-pointers and was 20-22 from the free-throw line.  A few days later on senior night he knocked down five threes along with 15 free throws to score 38 points while also adding 15 rebounds and 6 assists in a 76-60 victory over Apponequet.  It was his 12th 30+ point game of the season.

Derek Retos & Brendan Rollins – Brimmer & May School (Chestnut Hill, MA):  Retos went nuts from behind the three-point line as he sunk 9 of his 11 attempts and scored 43 points.  He also had 4 assists and 4 steals.  Not to be outdone, Rollins finished with a triple double of 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists as Brimmer & May defeated Wilbraham & Munson 110-86.  Tyler Prince led Wilbraham with 6 three-pointers of his own and 22 points while uncommitted point guard Alan Williams scored 26 points. 

Brett Tirlia – Plymouth North HS (Plymouth, MA):  The 6'3 senior guard netted his 1000th point against Duxbury Monday night. Not only that, he finished the game with 25 points and 10 assists. To make things even better, Tirlia hit a 3 as time expired to clinch the game 77-76 and solidify a high seed in the tournament.

Matt Gibson and Chris Picardi – Lexington Christian (Lexington, MA):  The backcourt duo had another big weekend as they led Lexington Christian to two big wins over their rival Concord Academy and the #1 team in their league, Pingree. Gibson had 20 points and 8 assists and Picardi 27 points against Concord.  Two days later at Pingree, Gibson had 33 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals while Picardi dropped 29. 

Kyle Gerry – Brockton HS (Brockton, MA):  The 5’10” senior guard scored a career high 37 points to lead Brockton over New Bedford 89-61.  With the victory, the Boxers clinch the Big Three title. 

Anthony Paolillo – Belmont HS (Belmont, MA):  Paolillo scored 25 points to lead his team to an upset win against tournament bound Reading High School.  Belmont’s leading scorer and rebounder was also recently selected to the Middlesex League All-Star game. 

Dan Feehan – Nashua South HS (Nashua, NH):  He knocked down a career high 7 three-pointers en route to scoring 33 points, but ultimately it wasn’t enough as Nashua South fell to Timberlane Regional 69-65. 

Michael Stys – Manchester Central HS (Manchester, NH):  The guard scored 31 points, including five three-pointers, and was the only player on his team to crack double figures as he led them to a 62-54 win over Nashua North. 

Lucas Croteau – Spaulding HS (Rochester, NH):  His dominant season continues as he went off for 43 points to lead Spaulding over Bishop Guertin 80-69. 

Mike Culpo & Brian Hanuschak – St. Andrew’s (Barrington, RI):  Brian Hanuschak scored his 1000th point against Master’s School on a two handed hammer dunk. He finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Mike Culpo added 10 points and 15 assists as St. Andrew’s won 71-48.

Lavon Waite – Classical HS (Providence, RI):  The junior guard knocked down 6 three-pointers on his way to 30 points as Classical knocked off powerhouse Feinstein. 

Ethan Smith – Cranston West HS (Cranston, RI):  He scored 21 points as Cranston West defeated Hope. 

Dan Bisaccio – Mount Anthony Union HS (Bennington, VT):  He had 19 points and 13 rebounds as MAU defeated Brattleboro on Friday night.  Three days later he was dominant with 27 points and 17 rebounds in a home victory over Mount Saint Joseph. 

Kevin Labas – Mt. Abraham HS (Bristol, VT):  The senior scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds in leading his team to their 2nd consecutive Lake Division title and No. 1 Division II ranking in the State of Vermont.
Justin Nowell – Brunswick School (Greenwich, CT):  The Bowdoin bound guard had 25 points, 9 steals, and 6 assists to lead Brunswick over Rye Country Day.  The victory was Brunswick’s seventh straight and clinched them the Fairchester Athletic Association regular season title.  Two days later he dropped 30 on KLHT along with 6 steals and 6 assists. 

Rundell Mauge – Putname Science Academy (Putnam, CT) & Dan Mills – Pomfret School (Pomfret, CT):  In a classic one on one battle in the paint, Mills scored 22 points and grabbed 23 rebounds while Mauge led his team to a victory with 29 points and 21 rebounds. 

Daquan Brooks – Bristol Central HS (Bristol, CT):  The senior guard scored 41 points to lead Bristol Central over E.O. Smith (Mansfield, CT) 78-63.  The win was the 8th of the season for Bristol Central and consequently qualifies them for the state tournament. 

Steve Zazuri – Masuk HS (Monroe, CT):  The senior guard scored 47 points, including the 1000th of his career, to lead Masuk over Bethel 66-54. 

Drew Billington – Fairfield Ludlowe HS (Fairfield, CT):  The senior point guard had 27 points and 13 assists in a win over Westhill, and another 23 and 9 against Trumbull. 

Allan Chaney – New London High School (New London, CT):  The Florida bound big man scored 24 points, including the 1000th of his career, as New London knocked off Putnam 74-53.  The Whalers are now 15-1 and ranked #3 in the state.
