This Week’s Notable Performances

The New England Recruiting Report will once again be publishing our weekly list of notable performances this high school season.  As always nominations can be made over e-mail with the weekly list being published first thing Friday mornings. 

Without further ado here are New England’s notable performances in the last week: 

New Hampshire

Player of the Week – Sean McClung, Bishop Guertin HS:  The junior forward knocked down a bank shot at the buzzer to give Bishop Guertin a 59-57 win over Exeter in the opening game of the year.  McClung finished the contest with 25 points. 

•  Alex Burt, Dover – 16 pts, 8 asts, 7 rebs & 2 stls over Manchester Central
•  David Madol, Trinity – 26 pts, 11-14 FG, 9 rebs, 3 blks in 62-55 win over Memorial
•  Cormac Fitzpatrick, Manchester Memorial – 5 threes & 18 pts vs. Trinity
•  Eric Watson, Merrimack – 30 pts, 7 rebs & 5 blks over Manchester West 56-40
•  Mike Mitchell, Milford – 25 pts in 77-53 win over Oyster River. 

Massachusetts

Player of the Week – Brandon Labrie, Hampshire:  A new name has emerged in the first week of the season as Hampshire’s Labrie has played a starring role in two victories.  First he scored 29 points in an 82-36 pounding of Gateway, then against Holyoke Catholic with the game tied at 59 in the final seconds he came up with a steal and subsequent lay-up to win the game for his team.

•  Wes Clark, Governor’s Academy – 20 pts & 10 asts battling injury in win over Brooks
•  Ramon Viches, Malden – 27 pts & 10 rebs in 79-62 win over Minuteman
•  Mitch Perez, Lincoln-Sudbury – 31 pts in 67-61 win over Newton South
•  Elvin Souffrant, Archbishop Williams – 27 pts, 8 asts & 6 rebs over Arlington Catholic
•  Givaughn Jones, West Roxbury – 32 pts in 66-57 win over Somerville
•  Pat Connaughton, St. John’s Prep – 26 pts & 14 rebs in 81-46 win over Boston English
•  Joe Mussachia, Manchester Essex – 30 pts vs. Masconomett
•  Zach Auguste, Marlboro – 20 pts, 12 rebs & 7 blks in 68-49 win over Wachusett
•  Pat Gooden, Belchertown – 39 pts & 8 threes in 74-54 win over Ware
•  Kamali Bey & Andre King, Sabis – 34 & 27 pts respectively over Chicopee Comp
•  Matt Medeiros, Westport – 38 pts in 86-76 win over Southern Regional
•  Jake Layman, King Philip – 19 pts, 14 rebs, 5 blks in 63-60 win over Randolph

Maine

Player of the Week – Chris Braley, Nokomis High School:  The sophomore sensation has been a virtual 20/10 machine…and even 30/10 on another night.  He scored 36 points and grabbed 10 rebounds last Tuesday, followed it up with 23 points & 14 boards on Friday, and then had a “mediocre” game by his standards of 21 points & 10 rebounds this Tuesday.

•  Stephano Mancini, Falmouth – 32 pts over Greely & 20 pts (4 threes) over Poland
•  Tyler McFarland, Camden Hills – 16 & 11 over Gardiner and 21 & 13 over Oak Hill
•  Ian Nono, Gould Academy – 40 pts, 19 rebs, 6 asts over Isleboro 83-57
•  Taylor Velente, Gray-New Gloucester – 22 pts vs. Freeport & 27 vs. Cape
•  Dominic Borelli, Westbrook – 27 pts in return win over Portland
•  Zach Blodgett, Bangor – 26 pts & 9 rebs vs. Brewer
•  Mitch Worcester, Washburn & Chris Williams, Hodgdon – 29 & 33 pts in Washburn win
•  Koang Thok, Portland – 25 pts 18 rebs over Gorham & 18 pts vs. Westbrook

Vermont

Player of the Week – Alex Snyder, Rutland High School:  The junior big man took home some new hardware after picking up MVP honors at the Spaulding tournament.  He averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists for the two games.

•  Connor Merrill, Vergennes – 33 pts in 66-56 loss to South Burlington
•  Mark Mallory, South Burlington – 22 pts in 66-56 win over Vergennes
•  Logan Williams, Vergennes – 26 pts & 6 threes in over Montpelier
•  Joe OShea, Burlington – 20 pts 5 asts vs Rutland & 26 pts, 7 reb & 6 stls vs N. Country
•  Scott Hayford, Twin Valley – 29 pts, 13 rebs & 8 asts in 66-42 win over Mt. St. Joseph
•  Jake Donnelly, Champlain Valley Union – 26 pts in 56-42 win over MMU
•  Demir Smajovic, Essex – 22 pts in 74-53 win over St. Joseph
•  Zach Currier, Proctor – 22 pts in 67-21 win over Websterville Baptist
•  Richie Hackett, Lake Region – 26 pts in 64-45 win over Hartford
•  Evan Tullar, Spaulding – 25 pts, 9 asts, & 7 rebs over Harwood Union

Rhode Island

Player of the Week – Nate Stitchell, Coventry HS:  Stitchell made his impact felt at both ends of the court against Westlery, led his team to a victory and scored a triple double in the process, finishing with 24 points, 10 assists, and 11 steals in a win over Westerly. 

•  Tyler Pina, Pilgrim – 27 pts & 4 threes in 61-58 win over Toll Gate.
•  Robert Alers & Antonio Mena, Central Falls – 26 pts (5 threes) & 21 points 16 rebs  
•  Curt Lucas, La Salle & Donald Williams, East Providence – 30 & 25 each La Salle win 
•  Tom DeCiantis, North Kingstown – 20 pts, 12 rebs & 6 asts in win over South Kingstown
•  Andrew Chrabascz, Portsmouth – 27 pts, 18 rebs & 3 blks in win over Narragansett. 
•  Daril Geisser, Moses Brown – 28 pts, 13 rebs & 7 stls over Fatima 75-38. 

Connecticut

Player of the Week – Jason Pranulis, Terryville:  The senior big man opened the season by scoring 34 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, to lead Terryville over Housatonic 55-49.  A few nights later he scored 30 more, while grabbing 14 rebounds, as Terryville earned a comeback victory over Lewis Mills 56-46. 

•  Khalil Dukes, Capitol Prep – 62 pts in the first 2 games of his high school career. 
•  Mike Odenwaelder, Wamogo – 28 pts, 16 rebs, and 12 asts over Northwestern. 
•  Ryan Kolb, Holy Cross – 28 pts & 12 rebs in 58-55 win over Wilby
•  Desmond Williams, Torrington – 30 pts (14 in 4th quarter) in 60-51 win over Seymour
•  Josh Turner, Sacred Heart – 32 pts (11 in 4th quarter) & 6 threes over Kennedy
•  Connor Boyen, Nonnewaug – 37 pts in 71-49 win over Wolcott Tech
•  Jonathan Boykin, Trinity Catholic – hit buzzer beating half-court shot to upset St. Joe’s
•  Tyler Olander & Ethan ODay, EO Smith – 29 & 23 pts, 11 rebs & 7 blks vs Bloomfield 
•  Danny Majchrzak, East Lyme – 33 pts, 8 asts & 4 threes in OT win over Waterford
•  Sam Donahue, Stonington – 31 pts, 8 rebs & 7 stls over Putnam
