Tartt Enjoys Visit; Makes Commitment

This was supposed to be a very busy week for Derrek Tartt.  After spending the weekend at the University at Albany he had visits scheduled to Northeastern and Duquesne.

But after getting a first hand look at the Albany program this weekend, Tartt decided he had seen all that he needed to see as he made a verbal commitment to head coach Will Brown before leaving Albany’s campus and subsequently cancelled his remaining visits.

Tartt is an Illinois native who starred at Fenwick High School before arriving at Brewster Academy.

Coach Brown and his staff have developed a bit of a recruiting pipeline in Illinois, as they’ve now landed three players from that state in the last two years.  In fact, Tartt will be reunited with his former high school teammate Mike Black in Albany’s freshmen class next year.

Tartt is a skilled perimeter player who should be able to make an immediate impact at Albany thanks to his versatility on both ends of the court.

“Derrek is a versatile guard who can play and defend all three perimeter positions,” said Brewster head coach Jason Smith.  He selected Albany over Duquesne, Northeastern, North Iowa, and Loyola Illinois.”

With his commitment, Tartt becomes the 8th player from Brewster Academy to earn a scholarship this year.
