STM Sends 6th D1
St. Thomas More post-graduate guard Francis Kiapway made a verbal commitment to Ball State on Thursday night, following an official visit to the school earlier in the week.
Kiapway chose Ball State over Detroit, Duquesne, and Western Kentucky.
The six-foot-two guard is a versatile offensive player, potentially capable of putting points on the board in all three ranges, but perhaps at his best from behind the three-point line.
That made him a top priority for first year Ball State head coach James Whitford, who has made shooting one of his biggest recruiting emphases since arriving on the job. Kiapway becomes the fourth prospect to commit to Ball State in the 2014 class and all four are quality threats from behind the arc.
Whitford also seemed to make a big impression on Kiapway during his recent official visit.
“He’s really close to his players, and he cares about each and every one of them,” Kiapway told the Star Press. “He really seemed like he wanted to coach me.”
Kiapway joins Eric Paschall (Fordham), Calvin Crawford (Manhattan), Josh Williams (Rider), Mike Wells (Albany), and Cane Broome (Sacred Heart) to become already the sixth member of this year’s St. Thomas More team to commit to a division I school.
Before arriving at St. Thomas More, Kiapway previously starred at United Leadership Academy in Canada. Here are some of his highlights from last season:
