St. John’s Prep Takes Pre-Season Title

Beantown Hoops hosted several of the MIAA's top programs this weekend for their second annual Fall Shootout.

St. John's Prep picked up right where they left off last season, taking this particular pre-season title behind the strong play of Steve Haladyna, who appears poised to assert himself even more this season with Pat Connaughton having moved on to Notre Dame.

NERR contributor Lucas Shapiro was on hand to capture the action on video and he tells us that one of the biggest sleepers of the event was New Mission junior forward Isshiah Coleman.   The six-foot-four forward is a high rising athlete known for his finishing and shot-blocking ability and Shapiro caught a big time glimpse of his explosiveness on camera this weekend.  The clip can be seen by clicking Coleman's profile.

Coleman's dunk was just one highlight from an exciting semifinal match-up between New Mission and King Philip and NERR's latest video of the week once again comes care of LShapiro Productions who provides a video recap which can be found on the NERR homepage.

New Mission would score the semi-final win before being stopped by St. John's Prep in the finals, 49-45.

The Shootout's All Tournament Team consisted of: Joey Flannery from Acton-Boxborough; James Costello from Andover; Mike Downing from Cardinal Spellman; Derek Healy from Hanover; Jake Layman from King Philip; Rodney Morton from Malden; Nate Anderson and Greg Bridges from New Mission; Christian Horton from Quabbin; Haladyna and Freddy Shove from St. John's Prep; Matt Mobley from St. Peter-Marian; and Colin Richey from Whitinsville Christian.
