Shine Returns to the Carolinas

On Sunday, Brewster Academy National/Upward Stars 3SSB 6’2” point guard DJ Shine announced his commitment to Queens University of Charlotte, despite having previously committed to Murray State back in November.

Shine came to New England just last summer, following a second consecutive SCISA-AAAA State Championship with Augusta Christian, who finished 26-5 overall (7-1 in Region 1) after Shine’s final year with the team as only a junior.

He averaged 24 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game, also shooting 53% from the floor and 46% from deep. This made him an easy pick for both the All-Region 1 First Team and the All-State Tournament Team following the season’s end.

Last summer, Shine continued to stand out throughout the grassroots season, competing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit with Upward Stars. He tallied 34 points in an all-out battle with Garner Road, including a buzzer beater to win the game in overtime.

He maintained his success this past year with an already-stacked Brewster Academy National squad, adding 14 points in a big win over PHH Prep at the National Prep Showcase to kick off the season in November.

This only continued, as he also tallied 17 with 5 rebounds in a win over The Hun School at the Scholar Roundball Classic in December, and 15 on 4/5 from deep in a win over Calvary Christian in January.

A top-10 prospect out of New Hampshire’s class of 2024, it will surely be exciting to watch DJ Shine compete in the ASUN Conference at the Division I level with the Queens Royals for the next stage of his basketball journey.
