Sharma Makes the Call
The best available prospect in New England, Northfield Mount Hermon big man Josh Sharma, made a verbal commitment on Wednesday after wrapping up his final visit over the weekend.
The six-foot-eleven center is heading out west to Stanford University where he'll play in the Pac-12 Conference.
ESPN.com's coverage of the commitment included quotes from Sharma on why he chose the Cardinals as well as an analysis of how he fits with their current roster.
"Josh is extremely unique," NMH head coach John Carroll said, noting not just his tools and talent on the basketball court, but also his high academic profile, "and Stanford is a very unique place."
A true student athlete with numerous AP courses and a high score on his recent ACT test, Sharma said academics were always going to play an important part in this decision but that his last visit further differentiated itself with "everything Stanford has to offer."
A longtime member of the Mass Rivals, Sharma has come up the ranks with the program, solidifying himself as a consensus top 100 player in the country and one of the best shot-blockers in last season's Adidas Gauntlet circuit.
With his size and athleticism, Sharma is still just scratching the surface of his potential. He showed off an improving face-up jump shot during NMH's fall open gyms and has the talent to develop into a true anchor on the defensive end of the floor.
Below are highlights of his last two seasons at NMH:
